Why Does Lower Back Pain Keep Coming Back?

Your Body Is Constantly Working Against Gravity

Your body is designed to move.

But every day, gravity places a constant load on your body.

Your head is surprisingly heavy, and your spine, pelvis, hips and ankles all work together to keep you balanced.

When one part of the body stops moving well, another part often works harder to compensate.

Over time, this can lead to lower back pain.

Sometimes Your Lower Back Isn’t the Problem

Many people think lower back pain starts in the lower back.

Sometimes that’s true.

But in many cases, I find that the real cause is somewhere else.

For example:

  • Tight hip flexors from prolonged sitting

  • Limited ankle mobility that changes how you stand and walk

  • A forward head posture that causes your body to arch through the lower back to stay balanced

Your body is always trying to keep you upright.

If one area loses movement, another area compensates.

That’s why treating only the painful area doesn’t always solve the problem.

Sometimes your lower back pain isn't the problem.

Finding What Your Body Needs

Every treatment begins with understanding how your body moves.

Sometimes the answer is stretching.

Sometimes your joints need gentle mobilisation before tight muscles can relax.

Sometimes improving your breathing helps your whole body move more freely.

Rather than following the same routine every session, I choose techniques based on what your body needs on that day.

Why Breathing Matters

When your body is stiff or out of balance, breathing often becomes shallow.

As your body moves more naturally, breathing usually becomes easier too.

Better breathing can also make stretching and movement feel more comfortable.

Everything in the body is connected.

Small Changes Make A Big Difference

Lower back pain doesn’t always disappear overnight.

But helping your body move better, breathe better and stay balanced can make everyday life feel easier.

Regular remedial massage isn’t just about relieving pain.

It’s about helping you move with more comfort, confidence and freedom.
